Eco wood treatment

Eco wood treatment

The DURAWOOD system will greatly facilitate the European wood industry in its shift towards safer, environmentally-friendly, water-borne coating systems in tune with legislative, market and consumer requirements.

Plasma technology

Plasma technology

High electric discharges generate ionized gas that can modify the surface properties of the material they are in contact with. For years plasma treatments have been used to enhance the wetting behaviour and adhesion characteristics of plastics. The DURAWOOD project will optimise a new plasma-based tool to improve varnish adhesion and the durability of exterior coated-wood systems.

Project

DURAWOOD is a 2 year R&D Project that is being funded by EC´s Seventh Framework Programme and more specifically under the “Research for SMEs” sub-programme. The European wood processing industry is a vital contributor to the sustainability of the European forest cluster that gives employment to some 3.5 million people and generates an annual turnover in the region of €400 billion.
