Solution
Plasma treatments have been found to be highly effective in modifying the surface properties of various polymers, such as their wetting behaviour and adhesion characteristics.
The DURAWOOD Project will build on promising past research is the use of electrical gas discharges (plasma) to hydrophobize wood surfaces, in order to arrive at a wood coating system that will be capable of improving varnish adhesion and the durability of exterior wood-coating systems.
The solution will also meet market needs in terms of price, performance and durability, while at the same time respecting the environment.
